neo-Calvinism vs the Bible

Topical study by Dr Andy Woods, president of Shafer Theological Seminary, Albuquerque (NM), USA and senior pastor at Sugar Land Bible Church, Houston (TX), USA. Additions were made by Ed van Ouwerkerk, such as personal comments and study-worksheets.
Neo-Calvinism has Dutch roots and is alive today. The Gospel Coalition is the network for and promotor of the neo-Calvinism movement. Read this article by gotquestions.org. We think that this article is a balanced description of the neo-Calvinist movement. Dr. Gray Sutanto, assistant professor of Systematic Theology at Reformed Theological Seminary, wrote a book on neo-Calvinism (2023). In a 6-minute interview he addresses many aspects of the holistic approach of neo-Calvinism, but does not mention the Bible, not once. That is one of the reasons to examine this movement from an evangelical and biblical perspective.
In the following sessions you will find the video's on neo Calvinism by Dr Andy Woods. I, Ed van Ouwerkerk, have added worksheets, so that students can use them to navigate through various resources and ponder over them. And you will find my personal comments on the Confessional Statement of the Gospel Coalition.
Calvinists claim that all is created by God, even all evil. But the Bible says "When tempted, no one should say, “God is tempting me.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone (James 1:13)".

Session 1
In the first study, the system of American government is explained. The founding fathers back then were aware of the sinful nature of man, with what in reformed circles is called total depravity. Therefore, the structure of the American constitution was organized horizontally with checks and balances, in order to avoid tyrany. Also heretical Lordship Salvation is discussed.
Session 2
In this session is explained why the neo-Calvinist movement isn't interested in proper Biblical prophecy teaching.
Session 3
In this session there is explained how amillennialism has been adopted in protestant churches, which gave room for an anti-Israel mentality and ideas as Critical Race Theory and the BDS movement
Session 4
In this session the association of anti-Israel mentality and anti-semitism with neo-Calvinism is addressed. Many examples are given that indicate that the reformers believed in replacement theology. And that's still the case with neo-Calvinists. Also the dangers of inter-faith dialog are addressed.
Session 5
In this session the neo-Calvinist movement is exposed about their tenacious misinterpretation of Romans 11. It is obvious that proponents of this movement are spreading false teachings, such as replacement theology and preterism. They have a lack of Israel-church distinction.
Session 6
In this session a thorough study of amillennialism vs dispensationalism is being done. And the issue of infant baptism is addressed. Dr Woods argues that, if you don't make a clear Israel-church distinction, and you want to align with Kingdom Now, it may lead to theocracy. And we know to what dangers that may lead to, like Muslim califate endeavors. Examples of failing Protestant theocracies are given. The interfaith debate is revisited in this session.
Session Seven
This session deals with the prophetic implications of Calvinism. It's important to understand the distiction between Israel and the Church. The fundamental shift in the neo-Calvinistic teaching by John MacArthur is being discussed.
Session 8
In this session the source of Calvin's theology is discovered.
What is double predestination?
Session 9
In this session we focus on the character and works of Augustin. Many unbiblical practices were introduced. Especially at the end of the Middle Ages, when the reformers acted against these practices, the Roman Catholic Church had for more than 1000 years the church goers to pay indulgences to get out of purgatory (a heresy). In the Roman Catholic Church a grant by the Pope of remission of the temporal punishment in purgatory still due for sins after absolution. The unrestricted sale of indulgences by pardoners was a widespread abuse during the later Middle Ages. The Roman Catholic Church held a conference, called the Council of Trent, where the Catholic traditions were set in stone.
Session 10
In this session we dive into what type of person John Calvin has been.
Session 11
This session describes Calvin's manner of life.

Session 13

and the doctrine of salvation (Soteriology).
Session 14
This session shines light on the neo-Calvinist view of so-called double-predestination.
